Professional background of Saskatoon writer and content developer Karen Millard, organized by type of project.
As a freelance journalist, I have contributed features, profiles and service pieces to national and regional print publications in Canada and the United States. I have interviewed many high-profile subjects, including Chicken Soup author Mark Victor Hansen; Barbara Coloroso, author of the best-sellers Kids Are Worth It and The Bully, the Bullied and the Bystander; Olympic gold medalists Clara Hughes and Hayley Wickenheiser and Canadian Olympian tennis player Helen Kelesi.
I have been a proud contributor to Herstory: The Canadian Women's Calendar since 2002 as writer and, more recently, as website administrator.
Need more detail? I'd be pleased to compile a page of clips, or to send you a copy of my resume and CV by email or postal mail. Drop me a line from the Contact page.
As a copywriter, I have written for small and medium-sized businesses, academic institutions and corporations, as well as independent professionals and service providers. I have contributed articles to industry and trade association newsletters under my own byline, and on behalf of my clients.
As a technical writer, I have written, designed and produced four software user’s guides, including one for a program in use at the Indy 500, Las Vegas’ Bellagio Hotel and Casino, and Sydney’s Olympic Park, and one--comprising 15 separate booklets--for a Canadian investment bank. I have also ghostwritten a book on leadership development for a corporate trainer. (The details of which I can't divulge, by agreement.)
I have recently begun using my experiences with the written word as a basis for developing and presenting workshops. My thanks to Ron Morris and Matthew Cey of Morris Interactive Seminars for giving me the opportunity to do so.
I was a founding board member of the Saskatoon Writers' Coop and during my five years on the board served as communications chair and newsletter editor, and did a brief stint as President. I designed and built a small website for the organization as a parting gift before I resigned. (The site is now significantly larger, thanks to the dedication of current Site Admin Jim Weseen.)
